  • Newscoop 3.5.5 and Newscoop 4 RC4 security releases
    5.04.2012 | Press release After being informed of vulnerabilities in Newscoop by High-Tech Bridge SA, we've released two updates - Newscoop 3.5.5 and Newscoop 4 RC4. The vulnerabilities affect all versions of Newscoop prior to 3.5.4 and upgrade should be applied as soon as possible. It also affects any development, beta or RC versions of Newscoop 4.0 (up to RC3).

Having experienced severe technical difficulties that threatened the newspaper's online existence for more than two years, the newspaper collaborated with open source software developers Sourcefabric to build an entirely new platform.
  • Airtime 2.0 features improved Icecast, SHOUTcast, SoundCloud integration

  • Superdesk nominated for Ashoka Changemakers Innovation Contest

Out of 426 entries from 75 countries, Superdesk has been nominated for Ashoka's Citizen Media: A Global Innovation Competition, supported by Google. Eleven finalists will be open to a public vote with the deadline on Wednesday 23 November.

  • Sourcefabric announces newsroom tool for independent media
    9.11.2011 | Press release Sourcefabric has announced it has begun work on a new software called Superdesk, which joins Airtime and Newscoop in its suite of free, open source tools for independent media. Superdesk's aim is to allow news organisations to build flexible, scalable newsrooms and deliver content to any available platform. Superdesk has been nominated as a finalist in the Ashoka Changemakers Citizen Media Innovation award.
  • Sourcefabric build newspaper to challenge Swiss media landscape
    1.11.2011 | Newsletter Tageswoche, an independent Swiss newspaper, has launched in Basel 14 months after the city's liberal Basler Zeitung was sold to unwanted investors. TagesWoche's editorial team of 30 professional journalists, including former 'BaZ' staff, promise to challenge the Swiss media landscape through an innovative daily online and weekly print model based on open source software.
  • Journalism goes open source at Mediafabric in Prague

The one day conference and two day hackathon was organised by Sourcefabric, a Czech not-for-profit promoting open source tools for journalists.
  • Airtime 1.9.4 released with .deb packages for Ubuntu and Debian
    27.09.2011 | Press release Airtime 1.9.4 has been released with new DEB packages for Ubuntu and Debian that keep installations automatically updated with the latest version. Airtime 1.9.4 also includes the new file storage system with 'watch' folders, allowing stations to magically synchronise files and to easily browse their audio archives, as well as Shoutcast support, improved front-end widgets, and extensive bug-fixes.
  • Sourcefabric Extends News Design Contest Deadline

    Sourcefabric has extended the deadline of its global news design contest to 1800h GMT on October 7th 2011. Designers are asked to send in mock-ups of news sites that invent fresh ways to display journalistic content. Winners get plane tickets to Prague, accommodation and VIP passes to the Mediafabric 2011 conference to meet some of the world's leading media experts.
