Sava Tatić

Managing Director
Prague

Having been there from the beginning, Sava has both the history and the future firmly in his sights. In 1999 he left his journalism career to lead the development of digital technology solutions for news media at Media Development Loan Fund’s Center for Advanced Media--Prague (CAMP). In 2010 he oversaw its spin-off as Sourcefabric o.p.s.. Hailing from Belgrade (a Partizan fan if you’re interested), Sava picked up a few languages (and his passion for Rio’s Vasco da Gama) as he moved around the world. He’s been having a lot of fun with his Android lately, though not nearly as much as with his four-stringed instruments.

Douglas Arellanes

Director of Clients and Services
Prague

One of the founders of Sourcefabric, Douglas is an American expatriate who has lived in the Czech Republic since 1992 (though he claims Dakar has the best music anywhere in the world and Cape Town the best scenery). Previous roles have included new media consultant for the Media Development Loan Fund, special projects director at Contactel, (a subsidiary of TeleDanmark) and co-founder of First Tuesday Praha, an organisation devoted to helping internet start-ups. When Doug is not translating some of the Czech Prime Minister’s speeches into English, he’s making households dance as a Saturday morning DJ on Prague's Radio 1.

Micz Flor

Head of Communication
Berlin

Micz is a media developer, writer and project manager based in Berlin. Since 1995 he has been knee-deep in Internet, organising a variety of events, net projects, magazines and temporary media labs. In 2000 Micz began work as a media developer for Eastern Europe and Asia at the Media Development Loan Fund (MDLF), where he met his fellow Sourcefabric co-founders. His musical excursions on any instrument with strings are legendary and have lifted the spirits at many of our yearly developer meetings - if you believe Micz’s account of the events. After his invention of the Cuckoocaster his particular obsession right now is the ukulele.

Naomi Aro

Airtime Developer
Toronto

Sourcefabric couldn't imagine a better addition to our radio software team than a young female musician who also happens to write audio encoders and decoders. Naomi is a fresh face who just graduated from University of Victoria with a combined degree in Computer Science and Music. During her studies she worked for Backstage Technologies on social networking applications and continued to play viola, which she still does in her free time. We’re not sure if she’s allowed to do this in the Toronto office where she’s based.

Mihai Balaceanu

Newscoop Developer
Cluj, Romania

Mihai is a passionate advocate of both new technologies and the free flow of information, and has been a developer for seven years, so Sourcefabric seems to be the perfect home for him. When not behind his computer keyboard in our Cluj community office writing exceptional code for Newscoop, he's busy producing drum and bass, reading up on Nikola Tesla or looking after his kitten Pixie.

Paul Baranowski

Chief Technology Officer
Toronto

Paul Baranowski is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Sourcefabric, and is responsible for all the software that Sourcefabric produces. Yes, all of it. Luckily, his mastery of Taekwondo means he has the shoulders to bear such a weight. He’s based in the new Toronto office where our radio software Airtime is produced. Paul has been writing code continuously since he was 8 years old and has been professionally developing software or leading teams of developers for over 12 years. He claims his interests are building world-class teams of software developers and using the best technologies to implement fantastic products, but we know the new Tron film features pretty highly on the list too.

Jiřina Blažková

Programme Coordinator
Prague

Jiřina could have been a diver, scientist, hacker, inventor, singer, mathematician, chemist or some combination of all, such is her propensity to multitask and take on new challenges. She’s based in the Prague office supporting the team there, but she’s travelled all over. She has a particular fascination for Asia and trips to Tiger Leaping Gorge, the steppes of Mongolia, Kuala Lumpur and the Batu caves are listed among her most memorable. Jiřina’s also something of a film buff, but no matter how many arthouse Czech films she lists amongst her favorites, there’s no escaping her love for classic sci-fi comedy TV series Red Dwarf.

Claudia Cruz

Latin America Representative
Guatemala city

Claudia had her first crush with technology back in 1995 after a series of all-nighters at the University of Kansas computer lab. Once she received her first UNIX based e-mail while pursuing a journalism major she got hooked up with the Internet, chatting on IRC and making HTML web pages Back in Guatemala, she became the online editor for the very first web edition of Prensa Libre, moving later to elPeriódico de Guatemala. She would say she’s a power-user of media-related software (notably our Newscoop) and an early adopter of cool gadgets, which makes her the perfect person to pen elPeriódico’s Hi-Tech section.

Ofir Gal

Quality Assurance
Toronto

Ofir Gal is our senior Quality Assurance engineer based in Toronto. From a small desert town in Israel to the bright lights of Toronto, Ofir is a Be’er Sheva native and well-travelled, so fits in perfectly with our team of multilingual nomads, expats and travellers. We like his critically acclaimed rock band but hope that the rise to stardom doesn’t happen quite yet. His evaluation and monitoring of our products is a vital cog in the Sourcefabric machine. Given time, you’ll probably find his name in our bug-reporting platform more than any other, which is a kind of stardom (we think).

Jakub Górnicki

Community Manager
Warsaw

Originally from Poznań in Poland, Jakub is now based in Warsaw. Never found without his iPhone (a little black book 2.0), he uses his extensive journalistic, new media, PR and development experience to get the word out about Sourcefabric’s activities. Starting initially in print journalism, he moved onto online activities in 2005 (he assisted in developing the refugee.pl website) and later worked for mixxt.com as a corporate developer. He had a busy 2010 as Head of Online Relations for Beamups.com, as a internationalization consultant for a leading Polish dating portal, and as a new Sourcefabric recruit. Jakub wanted to be a Lego constructor as a kid, but now he’s psyched about building something with real staying power.

Iva Heilová

Programme Coordinator
Prague

Although she laughs that her biggest success was to marry her husband, Sourcefabric team’s biggest success was to actually snatch Iva from the corporate telco world (Telefonica O2). She is responsible for office management and the mammoth task of connecting our three branches in Prague, Berlin and Toronto, as well as our satellites (Warsaw, Minsk, Cluj, Guatemala) into one living organism. She makes it look easy.

Daniel James

Documentation
Isle of Wight

If there's a person who truly understands Sourcefabric products and knows what every radio button does, it’s Daniel James. Responsible for writing manuals and reaching out to the developer community, Daniel is also the director of 64 Studio Ltd, a company developing custom GNU/Linux multimedia products for OEMs. He was the founder and original director of the linuxaudio.org consortium and formerly worked on LinuxUser & Developer magazine, serving as Editor until early 2007. He lives on the glorious Isle of Wight in the UK and his book Crafting Digital Media was recently published by Apress.

Petr Jašek

Newscoop Developer
Prague

One of our many truly-converted developers (with many more to come), Petr was responsible for Debian projects during 2010’s Google Summer of Code. He is now a true believer of an even more powerful system that he helps to develop - Newscoop. An avid fan of football and jazz, Petr joined Sourcefabric in October 2010 just in time to make it to Sourcecamp, where we learned he is one of the developers who undertalk yet overdeliver which makes him the perfect candidate to work on our secret projects.

Marina Klinova

Russian Representative
Minsk

Marina comes from Minsk, the capital city of Belarus. She studied programming and web-building at the Belarusian Technical University and she’s also Sourcefabric representative and link to the Russian-speaking world. Very happy with her wonderful job, two children and enormous fluffy cat Vanja, Marina somehow finds the time to attend regular dance classes, travel extensively and blog, blog, blog.

Martin Konečný

Airtime Developer
Toronto

Freshly graduated with a Masters in Computer Science from VUT (Vysoké učení technické) Brno, Czech Republic, Martin received his Bachelor's in Computer Science from University of Toronto. He is Canadian but has Czech roots and speaks Czech, making him the perfect candidate to work on Airtime. Right now on his drag ‘n’ drop playlist is “Ghosts N Stuff" by Deadmau5.

Katerina Michailidis

Projects Co-ordinator
Berlin

The latest recruit to the Berlin office, Katerina is of Greek origin but now firmly ensconced in the German capital (though she keeps tempting us during the winter with holiday offers to her homeland). A graduate of Theatre Studies, multi-tasking superstar Katerina does all the really important stuff around the office. We saw her work amazingly on open source streaming at the transmediale festival and snapped her up to help us run our events too.

James Moon

Airtime Developer
Toronto, Canada

James Moon is one of the Airtime developers based in Toronto, Canada (where he'd previously worked for Protexis INC and IBM). One of his favourite cities in the world is Prague, so we assume he'll be taking every opportunity possible to come and visit our headquarters there. He's into Korean music and American dramas (Lost, 24, Heroes) and we're pretty sure he still dreams of becoming a robot engineer that saves the earth. Let's just hope for all our sakes that he builds robots as well as he codes Airtime!

Vlad Nicoara

Newscoop Developer
Cluj, Romania

Vlad could have been an astronaut, so it was with great pleasure that we welcomed him to the Newscoop development team. He's based in Cluj, but when he's allowed a moment to daydream, it's usually about moving to the south of France where he would savour life as much as he savours that all-important first coffee of the day. His HTC phone is something of an evolution from his first laptop, a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook, and he has impeccable taste in science fiction films, Gattaca being his favourite.

Gabriel Nistor

Newscoop Developer
Cluj, Romania

Gabriel is one of our esteemed Newscoop developers. As a child he wanted to be an inventor, so we're glad he's applying his vision, imagination and knowledge of Stargate SG1 to the noble Sourcefabric cause. The best place he's visited is Tenerife, which he loves for its variety of landscapes from mountains to desert and ocean. One of his favourite shows is Big Bang Theory, a sitcom about experimental physicists and genius technologists. So, not that different from Sourcefabric then...

Mihai Nistor

Newscoop Developer
Cluj, Romania

Set in Earth's future, Mihai's favourite book Ender's Game involves an international fleet of talented children trained against insectoid alien invaders. Now, we can't say that our Romanian team of Newscoop developers are working on anything quite that exciting, but they're a super talented bunch and Mihai is one of the most recent. Liking nothing more than the thought of Californian roadtrips and listening to the radio, Mihai has his sights set on travelling to China in the future. He says he's a perfectionist who loves having intuitive stuff and loves a challenge. He's going to fit in just fine.

Ozan Ozbek

Newscoop Developer
Prague, Czech Republic

Ozan was born in 1981 in Turkey and studied business administration while working as a freelance programmer. Luckily for us, he made the right choice and started programming full-time and loved it. Luckily for us again, he then moved to Prague and loved that too! Now he's settled into the Sourcefabric team, we're enjoying his attention to detail almost as much as his jokes about SQL queries and tables.

Andrey Podshivalov

System Administration and Maintenance
Minsk

A varied and illustrious career has seen Andrey work in almost every sector, from banks to internet providers and beyond. Based in Minsk, Andrey is from Belarus and has been into Linux since 1997. A wannabe fighter pilot, Andrey spends his time with Sourcefabric ensuring that our flight goes smoothly, concerning himself with everything from security to our community tools to our email accounts.

Ljuba Ranković

Implementation and Design
Valjevo

Although an architect by profession, Ljuba's been deep into web development for several years. He got addicted to computers in the sixth grade, when the school got its first Commodore 64. Since then he’s fallen in love with every machine he’s ever touched - ZX Spectrum 48, Atari 1040ST, then PC XT, then AT 386, AT 486 and so on. His HTC Desire is the current object of adoration. Discovered Campsite in 2001 while searching for the appropriate CMS for the online publication of his father's monthly and now is a fully signed-up Newscoop implementor and designer. Father of Sofija and Pavle, he’s a runner, biker, trekker, wannabe Nordic skier, great photographer and full-time urban planner (still).

Holman Romero

Senior Developer
Prague

Holman has been using Linux since the very beginning of his programming days, playing with all sorts of GNU tools and the kernel itself. A model example, he started working as a volunteer for the Free Software Foundation (as code reviewer, programmer, translator) where he learned Scheme, Guile and of course the ubiquitous C. He’s a self-proclaimed "Emacsniac” (takes one to know one), but we know him by his other name, Ironman. An endurance athlete, Holman will out-stamina any of us so it’s just as well he likes reading and watching movies too because then we don’t feel quite so bad.

Mugur Rus

Senior Developer
Cluj

In a world driven by the never ending search for new projects, Mugur proves that a man can spend a decade on one. A DECADE working and making a Sourcefabric core product his child. He is the Batman of Newscoop, the Sourcefabric CMS system for media organisations. As with every truly great developer, he stays in the shadows at night and makes the magic happen so we can enjoy it by day. We’re not sure if he ever takes time off (he designed and implemented the template engine and leads the technical team), but if he did you might find him watching Seinfeld or Star Trek, or picking up his 5 year old phone, having dropped it for the umpteenth time today, and wondering how it is still working.

Martin Saturka

Newscoop Developer
Prague

Martin joined Sourcefabric in September 2010 as a part of the developer team for Newscoop. Martin’s interests are interdisciplinary fields of mathematics and natural sciences, especially algorithmic bioinformatics, nonlinear systems, and mathematical physics. All of which makes him a pretty interesting person around the office and probably more intelligent than the rest of us combined. He studied at Charles University in Prague, is still based in the city and served in the Active Reserves of the Army of the Czech Republic. He’s also obsessed with tangloids (yeah, we’ve no idea either).

Martina Šlesingerová

Chief Financial Officer
Prague

Holding those all-important purse strings is just one of the tasks assigned to Martina Šlesingerová. Keeping the books and the Prague office in order is no simple job, but Martina keeps everything ticking over with a zen-like calm that allows of the rest of us to concentrate on building great software platforms.

Sebastian Šimon

Quality Assurance
Prague, Czech Republic

Polish-born, Prague-based, Sebastian is one of our Quality Assurance team and a bug-zapper extraordinaire.  In his previous career, Sebastian worked with elephants, rhinos, hippo, zebras, giraffes and antelopes in a zoo. The animals he eventually chosen to spend time with (apart from the Sourcefabric team) are his pet chinchillas. When it comes to gadgets, he’s more into desktop than laptop, and more into Android than iPhone, and he loves testing software features to their limits.

Vladimir Stefanović

Interface and Usability Designer
Belgrade

Vladimir is Sourcefabric’s Interface and Usability Designer, so he takes the raw functionality of our products and turns into something users really enjoy working with. He has over a decade of graphic and web design experience, but it’s not what he started out wanting to be. As a little kid he wanted to be a garbage man (he says it’s something about the orange vests - are we seeing this in the new Airtime interface Vladimir?). His interest and love in comic book design and Bladerunner have probably influenced his design approach - clear, communicative design with just enough of a hint of the future to get you excited about coming to work.

Adam Thomas

Communications Manager
Berlin

Originally from the UK and now living in Berlin, Adam has project managed on some 20 international media, art and film festivals throughout Europe. He joined Sourcefabric while it was just starting and is part of the Communications team, where he is primarily responsible for talking directly to the fast growing Airtime and Newscoop communities. He also organises many of our events and oversees publishing on the website and beyond. The rest of the time he can be found touring Europe with his experimental music project or putting to use his MA in World Literature by writing novels that he never seems to finish.
