Georgia's Netgazeti, one of Sourcefabric's long-term collaborators and partners, has launched an exciting new version of their news platform. Working alongside a local implementation team and remote Sourcefabric engineers, they have now migrated to Newscoop 4 with a new design and an exciting new blog solution to further their reputation as one of the truly independent voices of the region.
During the relaunch, Netgazeti were given a stark reminder of the importance of their work as one of ICMM's (Mtskheta-Mtianeti Information Centre who also use Newscoop) journalists was arrested (news here, in Georgian). With only 6 full-time staff, Netgazeti regularly punch above their weight as one of the most respected news outlets in Georgia. Alongside TSPress and Mtskheta-Mtianeti Information Centre, they are one of 11 news organisations Sourcefabric has been working with in the region to provide an open source backbone to a vital, expanding and much needed independent media scene.
Thanks to a sustained emphasis on investigative journalism, a 24-hour publishing cycle and an embracing of social media, Netgazeti's news spreads fast and Sourcefabric helps to provide much of technical support to keep Netgazeti online and reporting.
As Nestan Tsetskhladze, Editor-in-Chief told us; "In addition to excellent consulting, Sourcefabric provides many different services including secure, cost-effective hosting. They really understood how important high quality journalism is." In instances like this, it's an association we're more than proud of and future plans will ensure this partnership will go from strength to strength. In the very near future, Netgazeti will be launching their range of hyperlocal publications, with online editions serving relevant news to specific communities.
