Newscoop 4.0, the open source content management system for online news media, has been released in beta and is ready for testing!
Developed in close partnership with the groundbreaking online-print hybrid Swiss newspaper TagesWoche, Newscoop 4.0 builds in an all new community management feature-set, totally overhauls the look and feel of your site with Themes and adds great extra functionality for ordering, connecting and displaying articles.
As ever, beta software means we're still working on things so Newscoop 4.0 is not for production or live sites - yet. By installing, testing and reporting bugs, you can really help us to get the final version ready.

Newscoop now allows the construction of a fully-fledged online community - readers are able to set up accounts, manage a profile, message and follow other users, subscribe to news and topics, and comment on articles. Newscoop allows you to manage all these users and their activity, and then display them on the front page with a new activity feed widget.
With Newscoop's themes, complex platforms can be redesigned with one click. They are 100% customisable and our new 2012 Theme Park will bring a whole selection of free themes to your fingertips. Newscoop's easy backup allows you to export your theme and share to any other Newscoop installation. Import, browse, delete and switch between any of the themes you've downloaded - all from the Newscoop interface.
Article Playlists allow editors and journalists to easily create lists of articles and display them on the site (perfect for Articles of the Week or round-ups). With Related Articles, journalists can now 'relate' articles to other articles from the Article Edit screen, allowing connections to be made between articles regardless of the author or topic (great for features and reviews). Pending Articles gives editors instant access to a list of all articles which haven't yet been published, allowing them to manage their workload and quickly sign off stories.
Newscoop's overhauled comments system allows your readers to have their say, and your journalists to manage the interactions effortlessly. A clean new graphical interface allows you to easily approve, hide, delete and rate comments (plus ban the occasional miscreant). A new Feedback Messaging system also allows readers to contact journalists directly to air their view or perhaps break a new story.
