GEN and Sourcefabric announce live-bloggin

As announced today on journalism.co.uk, Sourcefabric have been building a new open source live-blogging tool for newsrooms and journalists. Here's a sneak peek of the alpha version...

GEN Live Desk arose from a Google-supported GEN Editor's Lab, where journalists from the BBC, the Guardian, Le Monde, Voralberger Nachrichten and Zeit Online contributed to its design. GEN Live Desk uses code from Superdesk, our newsroom tool set to be released later this year.

We'll be releasing more details soon, and demoing the software live at the News World Media Summit in Paris. You can sign up to be the first to receive a testing invite however, by visiting genlivedesk.org. There's also a masterclass hands-on session at the festival on Friday at 14:40 in Salon Cheret.

Follow today's live blog, written using GEN Live Desk, on TagesWoche!

And watch Sourcefabric's Douglas Arellanes in the Live-Blogging Session alongside Bertrand Pecquerie (CEO of Global Editors Network), Mary Hockaday (Head of the BBC newsroom), Juliette Hollier-Larousse (Deputy Editor-in-Chief, AFP, France), Meredith Artley (Vice President & Manageing Editor, CNN Digital), Kate Fairhurst (Vice President – International, ScribbleLive) and Luc de Barochez (Editor-in-Chief, lefigaro.fr / Le Figaro) at the News World Media Summit.

The GEN Live Desk presentation starts at 46:30.
