With the news business beset by a long list of financial challenges, a growing number of media outlets are marketing their in-house proprietary software to other news organisations in a bid to generate additional revenue. But as Sourcefabric’s Managing Director Sava Tatić writes for Project Syndicate, this trend will only make a bad situation worse.

"To avoid being left behind, smaller publishers need an effective and affordable [technology] option,” he writes. “Fortunately, a solution already exists: open-source software."
